The Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale is the most widely used suicide risk screening tool in the world. It asks six plain questions. There are no trick questions in it and there is no score to get wrong.
These questions are direct, because vagueness helps nobody here. Answer them honestly. Asking about suicide does not plant the idea, and there is decades of evidence for that.
